Year 12 Agribusiness

Mrs J Howden, Agriculture Teacher —

Year 12 Agribusiness students have been researching dung beetles in New Zealand for their assignment on Organisms for Future Use.

The class, which also has four year 12 students from Waitaki Boys', split into smaller groups with each one taking on a different aspect of the research which was then shared with the others. The photos show Will and Chyna sharing their work on how dung beetles can help with effluent removal, Naua, Jordy and Sam looking at their effect on soils with a slant on crop farming, and Meadow and Jonty sharing their survey results, designed to find out if people in general were aware of the use of dung beetles in New Zealand. Other students looked at the beetle's effect on water quality, the economics of using dung beetles and to make sure they had a balanced view, any negative effects that may occur.
