The New Zealand Chinese Calligraphy Competition 2020

This competition was held to provide an opportunity for students of Chinese language to demonstrate their calligraphy skill.


The Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury (CIUC) and Future Learning Solutions for Languages organised the 11th New Zealand Chinese Calligraphy Competition. There were 2,217 calligraphy entries from 83 schools including universities, primary and secondary across New Zealand. 147 awards for excellence and 470 awards for merit were selected by calligraphy experts.

A total of 38 students in our school took part in the calligraphy competition and 13 of them won awards. They are Natsuki Akimoto(Y12) - second prize in the secondary category), Casey Kinns (Y10) equal second prize), Katie Paton (Y10) equal second prize, Ofa Tokai (Y9 ) third prize). The following Year 9 girls gained a Merit award:Isabel Carey, Allie Senior , Molly Mansfield, Kate Mortimer, Folau Tuakoi , Larnie Davidson, Sharifa Tauaa , Sydney Slee, Mackenzie Wilson.
