2021 Trampoline Gymnastics National Championships

Waitaki Girls' High School —

Congratulations Charlotte on gaining 2 medals at the recent NZ National Championships for Trampoline.

In the second week of the July holidays, Charlotte travelled to Auckland as part of the Aorangi Provincial Gym Sport team to compete at the National Championships. This event is the culmination of many training hours in the gym and miles travelled to compete in the qualifying competitions but it was all worth it with the results gained.

Charlotte competed in Individual Trampoline, Double Mini Trampoline and was a late entry into the Synchronised Trampoline event when an athlete, Hannah, from Southland needed a partner at the last minute due to injury. At the team training slot prior to competition Charlotte and Hannah spent just 20 minutes together to determine if entering was a viable option and they clicked straight away. The Synchro event was first up and Charlotte and Hannah blew the rest of the competition out of the water with their first routine, which they then consolidated in the final to gain the Gold medal.

Later that same day was the Double Mini event – which is Charlotte’s particular strength having gained the NZ Secondary Schools title earlier this year. She put in 2 excellent qualifying passes to move into the final in second place. A step on landing with the 3rd pass resulted in a score below her best and even with another excellent 4th pass she could not quite get up to the top position. Charlotte won the Silver medal with just 0.1 of a point between her and Gold.

Charlotte is very grateful to her coach, Michelle Johnston at Saints Trampoline Club for the time and dedication put into her training and to the team at L. J. Hooker for their generous support. The next steps will be to increase the difficulty of her routines and improve flight time on the trampoline.
