STEM Workshops

Mrs L Lane, HOL Maths —

Check out the creative solutions to a range of STEM challenges (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) offered during the recent Resilience Days for our Year 9 and 10 students.

Students worked in pairs to create the highest tower for a marshmallow from spaghetti and string, launch a plastic army man as far as possible with just a cup, rubber bands, plastic spoon and some lolly sticks and keep a ping pong ball in the air as long as possible with newspaper, lolly sticks and plastic straws. Common to the responses to all three challenges was the amount of sellotape used and how many marshmallows were required as thinking food for the design process!

We were very impressed with the perseverance shown by our students and the variety of solutions they came up with.
