Aoraki Lawn Bowls Champs

Waitaki Girls' High School —

Hannah Lewis and Ella Symes (both year 10) competed in the Aoraki Secondary School Lawn Bowls (Doubles) Championship today at the Meadowbank Bowling Club.

10 teams from Ashburton College, Mackenzie College, Waitaki Boys’ and Waitaki Girls' were entered in the championship.

Unfortunately the festival (fun) grade that had 12 further teams entered did not happen due to the weather and the championship event was moved indoors.

WGHS played four teams during pool play with the following results:

vs ASH 3, a 10 – 5 win to WGHS.

vs ASH 1, a 9 – 4 win to WGHS.

vs WBHS 2, a 10 – 6 win to WGHS.

vs ASH 5, a 7 – 7 draw.

With the girls finishing top in their pool and the top girls team in the competition, they then took on a very skilled team of senior boys from Mackenzie College with Mackenzie taking the overall win.

Final results for Ella & Hannah:

1st Girls team

2nd Overall

A huge thank you to Graham Sangster who coaches the Oamaru secondary school players and ran today’s event.

Many thanks also to the Meadowbank Bowling Club and Aoraki Sport for their organisation and support.
