North Otago Sports Awards
Three WGHS students were finalists at the recent 2021 North Otago Sports Awards.
Each year North Otago Sports Bodies acknowledges and awards outstanding sports people in the North Otago region. The 2021 Awards night was postponed from earlier in the year when numbers in venues were restricted due to covid, to ensure no one would miss out on a great evening.
Waitaki Girls' had six students who were nominated as finialists in four categories.
Ruby Fox - Finalist in Female Emerging Talent Category
Charlotte Lane - Finalist in Young Sportswoman of the Year Category
Emily Taylor - Finalist in Outstanding Official Category
WGHS Trapshooting Team (Mikayla Bryant, Bethany Paisley & Ashley Nicholson) - Finalist in Team of the Year Category
Well Done to all of these students on their great sporting results in 2021 and congratulations to the category winners on the night.
The night also included an inspiring speech by WRC driver Hayden Paddon, who spoke of the huge support he received from his small town community (Geraldine & South Canterbury) as well as recovering from setbacks on his journey to racing on the world rally stage.
