Principal's message
Wow, what an action-packed last few weeks we have had at Waitaki Girls’ High School.
Our senior students were farewelled on Wednesday the 1st of November at the final assembly. We sent our Year 13 off with our best wishes and look forward to hearing about their adventures. Our final event for our Year 13 students was their leavers dinner, which was held at the Loan and Merc. Thanks to Rebecca Dorsey, our Head Student, for organising the event. I would like to acknowledge the fantastic staff at the Loan and Merc who have been so helpful towards our school this year when we have held events.
On Friday, 17th November, we had our inaugural Grandparents / Significant Elders celebration at school. This was a very special day where our community got to experience what life is like at school for their grandchild. We started the day with an assembly where some Year 9 and 10 students shared why their significant elder was so special. The students toured their significant elders around the school before sharing in morning tea and finally enjoying a Junior Performing Arts concert. Acknowledging our grandparents and significant elders who play a pivotal role in our student’s lives was fantastic.
On Wednesday, we had Orientation Day for our incoming Year 8 students. We have very strong numbers for the 2024 academic year. The students had an enriching day, and our Year 8 students were excited about starting their secondary education next year. I wish to acknowledge our senior students who gave up a day of their holidays to ensure that the Year 8 students learned about Waitaki Girls’ High School and started their journey positively.
As we look towards our final week of school, we have a group of Year 10 students on camp at Hamner Springs, Passion Projects happening Monday – Wednesday, and all students involved in Activities Day on Thursday. We extend a welcome to you all to attend the Junior Prize Giving on Friday, 8 December, at 11 am.
I wish you a restful weekend filled with moments of joy and relaxation! May you find peace in the simple pleasures and take the time to recharge for the week ahead.
Ngā mihi nui
