Waitaki Winners at Junior Exchange

WGHS SPORT —

Well Done to all teams involved in the Junior Exchange against Otago Girls' High School

On Wednesday 26th August a group of 50 students headed to Dunedin to compete in our annual Junior Exchange with Otago Girls' High School. Teams involved this year were 9A netball, 10A netball, junior basketball, junior badminton and junior debating. Due to Alert Level 2 restrictions, we didn't have the traditional formal welcome and afternoon tea/prize giving, but it was an enjoyable day all the same with some great competition.

9A netball were first up for the day and came away with an 18-10 win. Unfortunately the 10A team were on the wrong side of their final score, going down 43-24.

The basketball was a tightly contested match with scores tied at the end of the 3rd quarter. WGHS rose to the challenge in the final quarter, taking out the victory with a final score of 53-47.

The 24 strong squad of badminton players played well all day at the Badminton Hall in St Kilda, with the final score 4-0 to WGHS.

Well done to the junior debaters, a novice team competing against students who have regular opportunities to debate other junior secondary school students. The first moot was 'This house would ban animal testing'. Our team were the negating side and unfortunately lost this debate. The second moot was 'This house would make fines proportionate to an offender's income'. In this debate WGHS was arguing the affirmative and came away with a win.
