Netball Smart Injury Prevention Programme

Mrs L Lane, TIC Netball —

Congratulations Brylee Milmine, selected to be the WGHS “Ignitor” for this programme.

Brylee is our senior student representative on the School Sports Committee for Netball and is a great ambassador for Netball. There is a WGHS Netball club session on 1st April for all netball players to introduce or refresh their knowledge of Netball Smart and Brylee will be leading the way. More information about the programme can be found below and it can be easily adapted to other sporting codes - chat to Brylee or Mrs Louise Lane for more information.

NetballSmart Ignitor Programme

NetballSmart as the Netball New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy is the healthy heart of netball; our aim is to reduce injuries, improve performance, player well-being and keep netballers in the game. NetballSmart are trialling a new programme called the “Secondary School Ignitor Programme” which will provide a greater level integration of NetballSmart principles throughout your school. One or two Netballers from your school have been identified as students with a love for the game and an ability to influence our players within the school, these people will be your “NetballSmart Ignitors”. The NetballSmart Ignitors will focus on delivering the NetballSmart Dynamic Warm Up and ensuring that all teams have the capability to run these before each training and game throughout the season and introduce Prep ‘n’ Play as a resource to Secondary School coaches.

Due to the small nature of the Oamaru community, it has been agreed that Waitaki Girls' High School and St Kevin's College will work together for this programme to create cohesion throughout the entire community (not just your own school). This arrangement will allow for both schools that have Ignitors working to implement the NetballSmart principles, which will only grow the strength of Oamaru Netball further by deepening the reach of NetballSmart throughout the region as we endeavour to continue reducing injuries and improving performance. Since your two schools will be working together, we have appointed three NetballSmart Ignitors (Brylee Milmine, Megan Dodd, and Tegan Souness) to cover both schools and work together to achieve their goals.

Well done to our three NetballSmart Ignitors for Waitaki Girls' High School and St Kevin’s College ! This is a great achievement and I know you’ll do a great job at implementing the NetballSmart principles into your schools.

Ngᾱ Mihi,

Renee Bacon – Netball South NetballSmart Development Officer
