A team of six swimmers competed at the 2021 event in Timaru last week with strong results.

Year 9 students Hanna Strachan, Emily Southee, Ella Fraser and Poppy Golding joined Jorgia McDiarmid-Jones (Year 12) and Alice Petrie (Year 13) which meant the school had their biggest team in some years. Each swimmer entered four individual events and this year the school was able to compete in the Junior and Senior relays. Combined points from the individual events saw Jorgia McDiarmid-Jones being second equal in the Girls 15 Years and Over overall results, reflecting a good day in the pool. Jorge's best result was First in the 15 & Over Girls 100 Fly. Hanna, Emily, Ella and Poppy all had very strong races and along with Jorge and Alice, there was a good number of individual placings and personal best times. Jorge was placed in all four events and for the juniors, Hanna had three placings, Alice two and Emily and Ella one. Ella and Poppy particularly impressed with the more experienced opposition and particularly Poppy who had her best results in the 50 Fly and Breaststroke. The Junior Relay team had two second placings behind a very strong Craighead team and the Senior Relay a second and third.It was a great day out with all girls representing the school with pride and enthusiasm. As well as new swimmers, it was also great to have Jenny Strachan and Andrea Southee poolside and their assistance with the transport, team and timekeeping were much appreciated.
