Kōkōkaha - Powered by the wind

Charlotte Lane —

On the Kōkōkaha sailing experience we learned so much and had an amazing time.

We learned how to set up the boat and then sail, plus we gained lots of knowledge about pulleys, knot tying, flotation and sails. We got lots of opportunities to experience, learn and try new things and really stepped out of our comfort zones.

On the water we learned how to turn and harness the power of the wind, played team ball games, undertook challenges on the boats and raced against other boats. On land there were a series of activities linked to the science, technology and mathematics behind how to be successful when sailing. We were also joined in the afternoon by a basking sealion!

The two instructors, Simon and Christina, were incredible and we really appreciated their knowledge, patience and the time and effort they put into our learning to enable us to have such a great day.
