On Wednesday 30th August WGHS hosted the inaugural Waitaki Mathematics Association Year 5 & 6 Mathletics competition. Teams of 4 faced 20 tricky questions in a 30-minute time frame.

On Wednesday 30th August WGHS hosted the inaugural Waitaki Mathematics Association Year 5 & 6 Mathletics competition. Teams of 4 faced 20 tricky questions in a 30-minute time frame. As they came up with a solution the ‘runner’ from each team had to run up to their marker and get it checked before being given the next question and running a lap of the hall back to their team - hence “Mathletics”.

20 teams from across the region, Hampden to Oamarama, took part, and Year 12 and 13 students from WGHS acted as the markers for the event. It was awesome to see everyone participating in what will become an annual event. Congratulations to the Fenwick Nerdburgers who came first!
