NZ Secondary Schools Trampoline competition 2021

Waitaki Girls' High School —

Congratulations to Charlotte Lane who recently competed in the combined NZ Secondary Schools and South Islands Trampoline competitions in Christchurch.

It was a huge event held over two days with competitors from Invercargill, Dunedin, Oamaru, Wellington, Hamilton, Counties Manakau, North Harbour and Whangarei, competing in all age groups from 8 years old to senior NZ representatives.

We were treated to seeing Dylan Schmidt - our NZ competitor at Olympic level - compete. He was quite the inspiration as well as it being daunting to watch the level of skills he was performing.

There are two disciplines in trampoline competitions; individual trampoline and the double mini trampoline (DMT). Competitors perform 2 routines in the preliminary round and then the top 8 get to compete in the final.

Charlotte qualified for the final in individual trampoline and finished 7th overall but most importantly gained qualifying scores for the Gymnastics NZ Nationals competition in July.

In the DMT event, Charlotte qualified for the final in first position which gave her the NZ Secondary Schools title. She then went on to gain silver in the South Island competition which uses all 4 elements of this discipline - losing out on Gold by just 0.1 of a mark! This result ranks her in the top 3 for the Nationals event in July - an amazing achievement and the result of a lot of training, both mental and physical.
