Since May we have named a 'sportsperson of the month' thanks to James and Paula at LJ Hooker. Next month a major prize will be won by one of this years recipients.

Our November recipient Katea Tangifolau is a passionate volleyball player. There are many high school volleyball players in the North Otago region, but currently no local competition. The students can only represent their school a couple of times each year at Summer interschools and at the Aoraki Champs. Katea, together with the backing of other keen players, penned a letter outlining a desire for a local secondary school mixed competition. Now with the help of the teachers in charge and coaches at the three local high schools, they are hoping to make that a reality. With guidance from Pip Sutton at Sport Waitaki the group is in the process of applying for funding for resources, which included Katea making a video submission as the voice for the players. Well done to all involved, hopefully we can get this over the line for next year.
