Peer Support

Abbey Wilson and Harriet Melton —

Kia Ora everyone, we are Abbey Wilson and Harriet Melton, the Peer Support Prefects for 2021.

Our aim as Peer Support Prefects is for the Year Nines to have a smooth transition into high school life. The Peer Support programme offers girls the opportunity to make new friends and build relationships with their Year 13 leaders creating a big-sister, little-sister bond.

On our first day we did many activities to learn everyone's name and took the girls on a tour of the school, ensuring they know where to go for all their classes. We have then focused on building the group and communication.

There have been lots of inclusive energisers that we have done to make sure that everyone is involved and getting out of their comfort zones. After two weeks of Peer Support we can already see new connections being made and the girls are feeling less nervous and more excited to begin their high school journey. We can’t wait to get to know the girls more over the next term and teach them lessons that they can use throughout their high school experience.
