Busy season for WGHS small-bore rifle team

WGHS SPORT —

Results from the recent Triple S Champs and upcoming events on the target shooting calendar.

Four current WGHS students are members of the local Railway Target Shooting Club in Oamaru. This year they will be competing in a number of secondary school events as a school team.

Katie Kinnaird, Meghan Hay, Skyla Shaw and Larissa Freeman have recently competed in the secondary school Triple S Champs, consisting of four rounds of shooting that are completed at their local club and posted to the national body.

In D grade, Katie had an amazing 4th place finish out of 44 male and female competitors from schools all over NZ. Skyla also finished in the top half of the grade in 13th. Overall, ranked against shooters in Master, A, B and C grade, Katie placed 23rd of 68 shooters.

Coming up, the team have another postal shoot which they will complete at their local club, as well as the Inter-Secondary School Inter-Island Match. This year due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, this event will be split among several ranges and results collated. Our team will be heading to the Dunedin range to compete.

If any other students are interested in small-bore shooting, please talk to our student rep, Meghan Hay, or contact Murray Reeves at the Railway Club directly on 0274379509
