Principal's Message

Ms Sarah Hay —

Tēnā koutou

This week our school has a great vibe. Students are focused on their learning opportunities, summer sport is in full swing, and production practices are in place along with our first Summer Sports interchange against Timaru Girls’ High School, where we were victorious. These all contribute to our positive school community.

A huge congratulations to all members of Wilson House who were the House Champions in our Athletics Sports. This was such a positive day where all students supported each other and our House spirit was evident, especially during the House relays. Our students’ attitude and participation in both competitive and tabloid events brought much pride.

We are strengthening our relationship with Waitaki Boys’ High School with both our Year 12- and 13-Year groups having an icebreaker evening. All the students dressed up in a costume that matched the first letter of their names, there were some very impressive costumes. Students participated in the mix and mingle activities and shared in a supper. Once again, the vibe during these gatherings was fantastic.

In our assembly this week I spoke with the students about the importance of our school value, Respect. Having a strong sense of identity and feeling that sense of belonging to our place. We have welcomed 90 new students to our school this year and we want them to join our community and feel that sense of belonging in order to thrive.

Enabling each student to have their own identity where they feel comfortable in being themselves is also important to us here. Each student has their own set of characteristics which makes them their own special self. As a community, we place an emphasis on being kind in what we say and do, in being respectful, and in accepting differences.

It was fantastic to meet more of our community during our “Meet the Teacher” evening on Wednesday. It was great to see so many parents and caregivers making the most of the opportunity to meet with their young person’s teachers.

There are a number of important dates coming up over the next few weeks. We will post information to our Facebook page and dates can be found in the fortnightly newsletter.

I hope that you all have a restful weekend.

Nāku iti noa, nā
