New Zealand Garden Bird Survey

Mrs V Lilley, HOL Science —

Year 9 Tui took part in the NZ Garden bird survey, quietly moving around campus as citizen Scientists, counting the birds they found.

One cheeky Piwakawaka (fantail), several warblers, sallows, sparrow, blackbirds and starlings later they had amassed a tick sheet full of observations. Once back in the lab, we submitted our findings to Landcare research, who flagged our 22 seagulls as an unusually high number to been seen in one group!

In all 216 individuals and groups in Waitaki took part in the survey, with a total of 2,179 surveys over New Zealand. Well done 9 Tui for your enthusiasm and mahi on Friday.
