Principal's message.

Ms Hay —

As we approach the Term 1 holiday, it's a perfect time to reflect on our exciting term at Waitaki Girls’ High School.

Our school has been busy with diverse events and achievements; each is a testament to the spirit and dedication of our students and staff. It's a time to celebrate these successes and remarkable moments that have shaped our school community.

Our final Dulcie Assembly on Friday morning saw many students recognised for going above and beyond during Term 1. This was very difficult for staff as they could only nominate three senior and two junior students from each Learning Area. Being recognised in the assembly before their peers as a student is a significant achievement. A huge congratulations to the recipients.

The Term 1 holiday is a time to rest, reset and reinvigorate for another busy term. We all must have a chance to reset the batteries so that the energy levels remain high and we can all enjoy the upcoming term and all it has to offer. I hope our students will take the time to complete some reading, spend quality time with the whanau, and connect with friends. Sometimes, we take the small things in life for granted, so step back and enjoy these holidays.

We have several staffing changes coming up for Term 2. I want to acknowledge Alicia Jones, our sports coordinator, who has been at Waitaki Girls’ High School for the past seven years. Alicia has left big shoes for her replacement, Rebecca Heffernan, to fill. Alicia has developed education outside the classroom and sports area significantly during her time at Waitaki Girls’, for which we will be grateful. We have had a change in Years 11 and 12 Dean. A massive thank you to Jolene Herrick and Pippa Holdsworth for their work with their respective year levels. These two staff members have shifted into new challenges within the school. The new Deans will be: Year 11 Dean - Morgan Kinzett and Year 12 -Jessica Wright.

I encourage you all to take some time to recharge and come back ready for whatever the next term brings. Wishing you a fantastic holiday.

Ngā mihi nui

Ms Sarah Hay
