Gateway

Mrs V Hay —

Would you like to experience first hand the jobs you are considering for your future? Would you like to significantly enhance the probability of gaining employment when you leave School?

The Gateway Programme is quite adaptable and students can choose to attend the placement for the whole year, a term, or even during the school holidays.

If the academic workload is quite high, some students opt for the alternative 'floating' system where they do not have Gateway as subject choice but just complete the work placement.

Learning focuses on Industry Specific Unit Standards, so that the student may take a meaningful pathway toward a career in that area.

Generally, students attend their work placement for one day per week during the school year and are given the opportunity to ‘trial’ their career choice.

Gateway provides long term structured workplace learning for senior students and is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission.

Students likely to participate are those interested in a particular career in a specific industry, or those students who wish to collect a wider range of skills than can be provided at school.
