Year 9 - Learning our History

Mr Dean Rabbitt —

All Year 9 classes have started the year sharing their whakapapa and learning about the history of Waitaki Girls’ High School.

“Every day we are at school we become a part of that shared history”. Students were welcomed into the library to investigate past school uniforms, photos and yearbooks. Students were excited by some of the events of the past, and amazed that such simple things were of significance back then. For example, one day in 1954 all students went outside to watch a plane fly over.

Various comments were made comparing the current uniform with that of the past, and the subjects taught and facilities available. It was a wonderful learning experience on something that will become close to each students’ heart over the next five years.
