Earlier this term on the 3rd August Hannah Shallish, year 9, went to the Aurora Science Fair in Dunedin with her project " Ready, Steady, Mould!"

Hannah was the only WGHS student who managed to put a project together post-lockdown in a relatively short amount of time.Hannah investigated a variety of foods such as tinned spaghetti, muffins, fruit and bread. She treated them with water, vinegar, tea and sugar water and monitored the foods for three weeks. Interestingly the tinned spaghetti formed the most mould with over 90% coverage except when treated with vinegar. The least amount of mould grew on the lemon. Hannah was awarded a highly commended award certificate. Well done, Hannah!
