Principal's Message

Ms Sarah Hay —

Week 4

Kia ora tatou

We began this week by celebrating a large group of students that performed admirably in the 2022 Academic year. We acknowledged students in Years 12 and 13 that gained their Merit and Excellence endorsements.

It was fantastic that we were able to acknowledge our students who saw success at the recent Aoraki Secondary Schools’ Sports Awards. Congratulations to the following students:

· Sarah Jamison - Athletics and Touch

· Emma Spittle - Rowing

· Tylee Packer - Hockey

We also acknowledged Jessica Lake who was the first student at Waitaki Girls’ High to receive her NZQA Primary Industries Certificate. Well Done Jessica!

This year I have introduced a Principal Scholar Award. This is awarded to a current Year 13 student(s) who achieved the highest overall achievement in NCEA Level 2. The award was calculated similarly to the dux for prize-giving at the end of the year. This is a monetary award that the student can use for their education. It was a pleasure to announce Casey Kinns and Noa Smith as the recipients of this award.

It was great to have such positive achievements that we could celebrate as a school community.

I have been privileged to have visited several classes this week and it has been wonderful to see the determination to achieve in each of these. A highlight was visiting Miss Hueppoff's Physical Education class where the students displayed a love of learning, and the laughter and joy were infectious as they were participating in the class.

At Waitaki Girls’ High School, we encourage all students to do their personal best. During the assembly, I asked that our students at Waitaki Girls’ High School aim high, dream it, believe it, and achieve it.
