WGHS Netball 2023

Ms Louise Lane —

Kia ora whānau

Trials for Saturday teams are complete and training sessions are starting - well done to all involved in the process so far. Coaches and managers will start to finalise arrangements for communication with players and whānau so that the start to the 2023 season can be as smooth as possible.

The coaches will continue to observe players and on court combinations prior to the announcement of A and B teams for the Timaru Girls’ interschool in May and the Otago Secondary Schools tournament in June.

Key information

The North Otago season begins on Saturday 29th April out at the courts with games scheduled for 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm. The draw is usually published on the Tuesday or Wednesday of each week..

Uniforms will be issued in the first week of Term 2.

Subs for the 2023 season have been confirmed at $90 for year 10 and above and $100 for year 9.

Each year we have a uniform contribution of $10 for Year 9 and new players to the club - it is this fund that enables us to refresh uniforms when required. The WGHS sub pays the North Otago levy and contributes to ongoing purchase of resources such as uniforms, balls, bibs, training gear and basic first aid supplies.

Please note that, in 2023, players can only participate in inter-schools and tournaments if payment has been made prior. It is likely that A teams attending South Island tournaments will undertake some fundraising efforts to alleviate some of the associated costs.

A reminder that in July we are committed to hosting the Putney Exchange where students from the U.S. travel around New Zealand - Oamaru is a highlight of their trip. Host families receive approximately $250 - $300 and this can effectively pay for tournament costs or anything else. Hosting these students is not limited to tournament team players.

If you would like to be a host family please let me know as soon as possible as we are getting deeper into the planning stages.

We will be holding our club AGM on Wednesday 26th April at 6pm in X47 (in the block of classrooms on Ouse Street) in order that we can get representation from all layers of the club. The committee will then administer the season and disseminate information to all relevant parties. We are always grateful for any help and support from outside the school, so please get in touch.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me - email is best.
