Waitaki Girls’ High School has hit Term 2, with students having an actioned packed 2 weeks.

The Annual School Swimming Sports brought a fun-filled day that was enjoyed by all of our community. The Competitive Swimmers were at the Oamaru Aquatic Centre for competitive races and the non-competitive swimmers were based at school where a fun House Pentathlon. It was great to see the House spirit alive in our community.

This term we have a focus on responsibility as our Waitaki Way values. Teaching students responsibility at Waitaki Girls’ High School is important because we are also teaching them to be responsible at home and in their communities. This is a life skill that they will need to practice throughout their lives.

The term responsibility is a broad term that means many different things, including:

· Being dependable so people know they can count on you

· Keeping one’s word and agreements

· Meeting one’s commitments

· Doing something to the best of one’s ability

· Being accountable for one’s behaviour

· Accepting credit when you do things right and acknowledging mistakes

· Being a contributing member of one’s family, community, and society.

Being responsible is vital to a student’s success both in school and in the larger world.
