Year 11 PE Trip

Holly Taylor —

On Thursday the 27 August the year 11 PE classes travelled to Timaru and Geraldine to participate in rock climbing, high ropes and the confidence course.

First up we had rock climbing in Timaru. When we first got there we got geared up with our helmets and harnesses and went over the safety procedures when climbing the rocks and belaying others. We then walked about 10 minutes to where the rocks were located and the instructors did a quick demonstration on one of the rocks and then we got started. We got into groups of 3 and chose the rock we felt most comfortable on. There were 2 easy walls, 2 medium walls and 2 hard walls to choose from. After 2 hours of climbing up the different walls, supporting others and trying our best we headed back up to where we started to sanitise our gear and to debrief. Next we headed off to Geraldine and got some lunch and then made our way to Geraldine High School which is where the high ropes were. There were many different high ropes to choose from which were at many different ability levels. After another 2 hours of climbing up the high ropes, we all gathered round to do the “leap of faith”. Climbing up a 25 metre tree to jump off a small ledge with nothing to hold onto and trying to jump and reach a trapeze bar. Finally our last stop, the confidence course in Timaru. We paired up and each took turns at participating and completing the confidence course. It was challenging but with the help of our buddy and the support from the other girls around us, everyone was able to complete it. We then headed back to Oamaru which concluded our fun but very big day on the year 11 PE trip.
