Netball Report

Kaitlyn King, WGHS Netball Club Captain —

To start off our 2021 Waitaki Netball Season this year, our girls have been participating weekly in the Saturday North Otago competition.

Though there have been some setbacks due to bad weather conditions, our Waitaki teams have used game time wisely as they have shown on court all efforts of hard work and determination.  This Waitaki Netball spirit has definitely brought about our competitors' attention as many teams have finished with positive results.  With these outcomes from the challenges we have faced it has become beneficial towards our girls learning opportunities in this sport.

As a Netball club we had organised a bonding debrief session at North Star at the beginning of the season. It was great to see the range of year groups arrive to our get together, and even better to see our Waitaki Netball family back at it again.  Senior A’s had their first appearances in the new dresses at the Otago Secondary School tournament placing 6th with an intense play off against Mt Aspiring. Intermediate and Junior A’s also participated in this tournament ending with a placing of 4th and 5th within their grades.

Senior, intermediate and Junior B’s set up tough games against Queen's teams last week at our school exchange showing the respect, resilience and responsibility of our Waitaki way. These coming holidays our Junior South Islands will be held and our girls will be attending, good luck !! Thank you to the coaches, managers, parents, committee members and all Waitaki netball students/ staff for taking their time to support and make our netball season happen. We are excited to be put through the further challenges that come in the near future of the season.
