Year 11 Field Trip

Mrs V Lilley, HOL Science —

Year 11 Life Science and Maths were lucky enough to be hosted by Network Waitaki last week.

Students were given the opportunity to explore what the company does, and the wide range of careers available within the electrical lines company.

Network Waitaki had set up different activities for students, and staff, to try their hand at. After a tour of the site, we learnt about substations, transformers and fried possums. We tried our hands at live powerline skills, with the current turned off! We had an absolute blast using the crane arm to move a bucket of water from one side of the yard, across barriers, and land it in a small marked square. To add a competitive nature, everyone was timed with Sarah King winning the challenge in a very impressive 26 seconds! We also learnt about the awesome scholarship and apprenticeship schemes available to students if they wish to pursue any of the careers they had explored during the trip.

A massive thank you to everyone at Network Waitaki who organised our morning out, and to our team of teacher aides who make it possible for us to enrich the classes learning.
