40 Hour Famine

Taylar Keene, Year 13 —

From the 1st to the 3rd July the 40 Hour Famine group at Waitaki Girls' worked hard to complete the 40 hour famine.

Students participated by giving up different things for 40 hours such as no food, no talking, no furniture or 40 hours and 40 acts of kindness! The funds that were raised went towards helping children and families in African villages have access to clean water whether that may have been through the water purification kit, or a water pump close to their homes.

As a school we managed to raise around $1,714.21 which is insane! It was entirely a group project and we certainly wouldn't have raised as much as we did without the support of multiple students.

On Thursday the 7th July we decided as a committee we needed to raise some further funding to support the cause. We decided to host a sausage sizzle which was a huge success!  It was wonderful to see the whole school come together for an important cause.

We can't wait to see what happens next year and we hope to meet our goal of $5000 in donations.
