Each year, like every secondary school in the country, we have a number of students who require special assessment conditions for their NCEA assessments, both internal and external. This means that someone else reads their examination papers or assessment tasks aloud to them and / or writes down the answers which the student dictates. Reader Writer help is used for internal assessment tasks throughout the year, and in November, for the external examinations. NZQA provide remuneration for November exams whereas during the school year the assistance is voluntary. We would like to increase the school’s pool of people available to assist with this. Training and support will be given, and a police check is compulsory due to government regulations. Interested parents, guardians or other adults need to have legible handwriting and spelling and punctuation ability. Handwriting needs to be fluent enough to complete the task within the time available.
