Peer support 2023

Casey Kinns —

On Thursday 6th April we had the Year 9 & 13 Peer Support Breakup.

Casey Kinns has reflected on Peer Support for 2023.

This was held to finish up a term that was spent working with each other to welcome the Year 9's into our school and allow them to feel comfortable with us and the new school environment. We have all formed connections with one another and enjoyed getting to know each other through our weekly sessions. I know that both of us Year 13's and Year 9's have benefited from this experience.

At the breakup, we all sat with our groups and each had a picnic with a variety of foods provided by our leaders. This was followed by a game called the Newspaper Dress Up. This is where the groups each dressed a person in newspaper with an idea of a design and a funny story behind it. Afterward, all of the students carried out a catwalk for Miss Gillies to judge! The winner was Sarah and Holly’s peer support group with Taylor as the model dressed as a ballerina. There were tons of other amazing dress-ups, a group even creating a mermaid!

Overall it was a lot of fun and there were smiles and laughter everywhere. Thank you to Ms. Hull for organising the peer support programme and checking in on us whenever we needed it. And thank you to Mrs Corlet, Mrs Grant, and Mrs Bain for helping us plan each week and being another form of support for us. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help from each of you.
