Principal's Message

Waitākiri Admin —

Welcome to term 2. While Andrew Barker is on sabbatical (extended leave) this term Dianna Reynolds and I will be sharing the Principal role. Kaye Royle will be supporting us in the Senior Leadership office while Andrew is away.

Kia ora koutou

While I was out and about over the holidays I spotted school families and staff at the beach, the library, the mall, a cafe, Hanmer Springs pool and out walking. Hopefully your whanau were able to enjoy some of the (mostly) fabulous autumn weather over the last two weeks. I do love this time of the year without the easterly wind.

I would like to thank the Oscar team for the fantastic programme they offer our tamariki. A lot of organisation and preparation by the staff before the holidays ensures that the tamariki have a great time. Some of the great activities these holidays included going to the movies, mini golf, Pokemon day, Nerf wars, slumber party, Laser Tag and the senior children went swimming at Dudley pool. On average 80 children attend Oscar each day over the holidays.

Woody has also been busy around school over the holidays. One day I spotted him on a scissor lift dealing with all the cobwebs high up under the walkways and he has ‘winterised’ the orchard and vege gardens. Contractors were on site for several days servicing all the heat pumps ready for winter warming.

Each term we say that it’s going to be a busy term and this term is no exception. This term includes: school photos, Cycle Safety for year 6s, Cross Country, Road Safety Week, Pink Shirt Day, Canterbury Women’s Football workshops, Epro 8 Technology Challenge for year 5 and 6, Playhouse Theatre performance for Windsor and Burwood and more. Keep an eye on our calendar so you can stay up to date with what’s happening.

Kind regards / mihi aroha
