Tech Cadets

Waitākiri Admin —

Our small groups of Tech Cadets have had a bit of fun this year . . .

This year we began with looking at writing simple algorithms then testing them. Students have coded a maze challenge, written algorithms for Bee-Bots, worked with Ozobots using Shapetracer online, spent time on OSMO challenges and learnt unplugged ways to code using Turing Tumble.

Terms 3 & 4 our Tech Cadet group has continued learning about different ways of coding using:
Sphero: a programmable robot ball designed to inspire creativity and curiosity through coding by creating programs or completing challenges. Students have coded Sphero to draw shapes, and have been working out the degrees, speed, and distance to move through a maze challenge.
Makey Makey: An experimental invention kit that uses a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable. It uses closed-loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal.
Students have also recently used online sites such as:
Codespark (Splash Clash): Teaches students to code by playing a fun interactive coding game where they can battle against each other.
Crunchzilla (Code Monster) Is a combination of a game and tutorial where kids experiment with code by learning the basics of programming using Javascript code.

Tech Cadets is a fabulous opportunity for students and at this stage only offered to a limited number of students in the school with a maximum group size of six.
