Principal's Message

Waitākiri Admin —

A message from our principal Andrew Barker

Kia ora, Tālofa lava,

We have continued to have a number of end of year events, recitals and performances. I would like to thank all of those who make these possible for our students. I would also like to make a special thank you to the parents who are on the PTA, you make a real difference to the school and what we can offer the students. We had the end of year PTA dinner on Monday night and it was a pleasure to attend.

Last Tuesday we had the Children’s University graduation at the James Hay theatre. It was a very special event for those involved. The students received awards depending on the number of hours learning that they had completed in their own time. These awards ranged from 30 hours to 130 hours. Congratulations students and thank you to parents for supporting your child.

On Wednesday night we celebrated the students who had been learning an instrument through Shirley District Music School. It was great to see the enthusiasm and talent of these young musicians.

The Thursday before saw our junior students taking part in their athletics competition. Thank you to the Sports Ferns for supporting our young athletes. Today our senior athletes are representing our school and zone at the Canterbury Athletics competition, best wishes to them.

Finally I would like to congratulate the students who represented Waitākiri at the Canterbury Triathlon. We had some amazing performances highlighted by Ben, who won the year 6 boys section. This was an outstanding effort with such strong competition.

As the year draws to a close, please keep the bedtime routine going as we are starting to see some very tired students at school.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Ngā mihi

Andrew Barker
