Bike School comes to Wakari School

Katy Fitzgerald —

On a beautiful, sunny day last Monday, the year 6's brought their bikes to school to learn some safety skills.

Ro and Daniel from Bike School taught the ABC's of bike safety - Air in the tyres, brakes that are working and checking the chain and the quick release levers. They also checked the students' helmets to ensure they were safe and fitted correctly. Then the students rode around the courts at school and learned how to brake safely without flying over the handle bars. From here the students completed biking activities around the top field and on Friday they will look at bike safety on the road.

Biking with Bike School was a load of fun and I learnt a lot of things. It was fun to bring my bike to school. The red light game was fun. It felt slightly dangerous but still fun - Mae

I enjoyed biking with Bike School. I learnt a lot of skills like how to check if my bike was okay to ride, how to see if my helmet was good to go and more. My favourite part was when I tried to skid but I put my front brake on - Ollie

I enjoyed having to bike to school and I had to refit my helmet. My gears on my bike had to be tightened up. It was fun to have the Bike School come and teach us some cool skills. I am looking forward to Friday to bike on the road - Michaela
