Winter is here

Chris Smith —

Great to see kids getting out and about when they have the opportunity to play outside.

Winter has arrived and there has been a noticeable drop in temperature overnight and in the mornings. A Snow Reminder was sent out earlier on, and has been included in this publication, please have a read of this and familiarise yourself with how the School handles the inclement weather days. (Safety First).

Board of Trustee elections closes tomorrow at Noon. Please ensure you have got your vote in the supplied envelope and have dropped it to the box in the office, or in the mail, before the deadline.

A highly publicised budget delivered last week, once the politicising had finished it was interesting to see the impact for Schools. Wakari is a decile 7 School therefore we will qualify for the $150 per child that replaces (from 2020) our donation. Wakari was a decile 8 as little as 3 or 4 years ago, I wonder how we would be feeling if that had not been changed during the last census. Gift horse in the mouth stuff I know and this will be a bonus for the pupils and families of Wakari.

Today Minister Hipkins and the Secretary for Education are meeting with Teacher Unions to look at "finding a way through" the current impasse. The underfunded sector has dug in its toes and I hope that both sides can work together to address Schools in need. There is no overnight solution to what we are currently facing, let's hope we hear some positives from both sides in the coming days.

As always if I can be of some help let me know.

Regards Chris
