Our 2020 PALs!

Katy Fitzgerald —

Congratulations to the year 6 students who have been selected to be Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) this year.

Our 2020 PALs recently had their first training day out at the Edgar Centre, hosted by Sport Otago. Here the PALs learned about what it takes to be a coach or leader, as well as some ideas for sporting activities to try at school and how to modify games for those with disabilities. Many thanks to the parents who helped with transport to and from the Edgar Centre. The PALs will soon be busy running lunchtime activities for the pupils of Wakari School.

PALs training was so fun. I loved playing the games and also learning new games. I can't wait to teach the little kids to help them have things to do at lunch time and be fit. - Marlie

At the Edgar Centre some kids did PALs training including me. We practised being leaders. It was so fun. We tried new games and learnt about how to include everyone, it was really fun -Esme

At the Edgar Centre an awesome group of kids went to do some PALs training. We learnt a lot of new games like hot dogs, and a game of tag where if you get tagged, you have to go to the circle and have to try and throw a bean bag into a bucket. If you miss you just keep trying and if you get it in you get to go play again. I can't wait to go to the other PALs meetings at the Edgar Centre to learn new things and more games to play at Wakari - Charlie H
