Strike Percussion Comes to Wakari!

Anna Ollerenshaw —

This week Wakari children were entertained by Strike! Room 14 and 15 have written some stories about the performance.

A band came to Wakari School to play the drums. All sorts of things happened. Mr Murray and Mrs Lawson had to go on stage. Mr Murray was "superman" and Mrs Lawson was "Wonder Woman". Mr Murray had to perform a solo and stole everyone's instruments. Then it was Mrs Lawsons turn and she stole Mr Murrays drum. At the end of the show, the performers lit some fire. They had a type of gas that made the fire grow bigger and smaller. It was amazing!

On Tuesday, the Strike Performance Group came to Wakari School to inspire us. It was brilliant! They played with fire. It was spectacular! They played the drums and all the children waved their hands.

On Tuesday the 9th of May, Wakari School had a drumming team called "Strike" to entertain us. I was amazed with their spectacular drumming. They started the show with a piece of music called the 'Tropical Storm'. "My favourite part was the fire", said Takaia of Room 15. When the Strike team asked who wanted to come up and play the log drums, almost every one put their hand up. Mr Murray and Mrs Lawson were chose to go up and play a drum each. Strike were not good at remembering names, so they nicknamed them "Superman" and "Wonder Woman". When Mr Murray did his solo, he stole everyone's drums (We are sorry but that is all the room the newspaper has left to write, so we hope you found this article interesting).

On Tuesday the 9th of May, a group of drummers named Strike came to perform for Wakari School in the school hall. Their names were: Jimbo the flying Nimbo, Muzzle and Special k. They were performing a percussion show for us. It was so loud that I nearly fell deaf.

Mr Murray and Mrs Lawson also known as Superman and Wonder Woman were called up on stage. Mr Murray played his solo. He stole Jimbo the flying Nimbo and Mrs Lawson’s instruments! In the end the end Mr Murray took out the competition and won a mango and white chocolate Lindor. Mrs lawson got a plain milk chocolate. The performance was very entertaining!

On Tuesday the 9th of May a comedy and musical band went to Wakari School in Dunedin to perform for the kids. Some kids would say its was funny and some would say it was awesome. They played wooden drums, a marimba, drum towers and normal drums. They were called Strike.

They got teachers up to play the drum and the cymbals. They choose Mr Murray to play the drum and Mrs Lawson to play the cymbal. They both did an awesome performance!

At the end they set a stick on fire and sprayed it to make it burn! The show was awesome.

On Tuesday morning, Strike visited Wakari School. They are a group of percussion players who came all the way from Wellington. Their names were James, Murray and Katie. I nearly went deaf because it was so loud and mainly everyone blocked their ears, but they were incredible!

They have been all over the world to places including Mexico, America, Fiji, China, Japan, Russia, Europe, France, Australia and New Zealand.

They had lots of instruments which made different sounds. They also had a teacher battle asking two teachers to come up on stage. The teachers were Mr Murray and Mrs Lawson. They gave the teachers different instruments. They had a battle where they had to drum as fast as they could and as loud as they could. Then there was a vote the children had to cheer and Mr Murray WON!

On Tuesday, a group called Strike came to perform to Wakari school. The performers names were: Murray/Muzzer, Kate/Special K and James/Jimbo the flying Nimba. They were great!

Let me tell you about it. First they introduced themselves with the drums. They did a lot of songs but they didn’t sing. There was an instrument called the Marimba, a long drum and drums.

They brought two teachers up - Mr Murray and Mrs Lawson. James said ”We don’t always remember names so we will give you nick name’s. Mr Murray you are SuperMan and Mrs Lawson you are Wonder Woman.” They had a battle and Mr Murray won. He got a chocolate and so did Mrs Lawson even though she lost. Then they got the kids up but they didn’t have a competition. They just got to play the long drums for fun.

At the end they lit up some sticks and they used a special fuel so the fire didn’t spread. It made a lovely soft sound that I loved.
