Excellent weather to match the attitudes of our learners and staff

Chris Smith —

What a term! Thanks to everyone who has supported the school through the first term of 2022.

The variety of the position of being a Principal most definitely never ceases to amaze, reward and challenge me. The first term of this year has been no different. There is never a dull day at Wakari, I suppose this is normal for any place that has around 300 good humans roaming about it on a daily basis.

Your kids have been awesome, the uncertainty of the pandemic and the widespread infections due to omicron have touched us all in one way or another. Through all of this our children have aspired to be Happy, Confident Learners - what more can we ask.

We are in the final throws of completing the groundwork around the new build and we have managed to secure $60,000 in trust monies to go towards an extension to the playground that sits beside Shetland Street. This will be built in September of this year.

Late last week we were pleased to receive a final sign off from the Ministry of Education for a $2.4 million capital works project that will give equitable access to students with disabilities within our main block. This has taken two years of applying, planning and patience as we worked with the Ministry. We hope that this project will get underway sometime in term 2 and will take the better part of eight months to complete. I will let you know more details once we have a timeline locked in from our lead contractor.

As we approach a term break I sincerely hope that you get to spend some quality time with whanau and enjoy the little moments that being surrounded by friends and family often produces.

As always if I can be of some assistance to you please get in touch.

He waka eke noa

Kind regards,

Chris
