Otago Cross Country

Anna Ollerenshaw —

Ten Wakari runners headed to the Otago Cross Country on Friday 30th August.

 The Otago Champs!

Bang! The hooter went, I jumped because I got a fright and ran along the roadside as I heard people screaming GO SHALIA! Then we went round the corner onto the bridge and up near the car park then across the field into the forest where it was muddy and slippery. I tripped up on a root because there was so much just sticking out of the ground, but luckily this year they were spray painted so we could see them. Then once we went through the forest we ran right back to the bridge then back near the start line and through near the start road bit and then out of nowhere the finish line comes.  I was relieved and I sprinted past the finish line!

The Otago Champs

Hoot, the horn blew. The year six girls ran as fast as they could, I could hear people screaming “Go, go, go” and that made me run faster. I could see people slipping in the mud we ran across the bridge, I could still hear people. Soon we got to the forest there were a lot of roots luckily they painted the roots neon orange and pink. When we got out of the forest, there was a huge puddle of mud. I fell over and got really muddy. I had a really great time and I came 37th. I did way better than last year.
