North Zone Athletics Day

Anna Ollerenshaw —

On Thursday 7 November, a team of Wakari athletes headed to the Caledonian for a day of sprinting, jumping, throwing and running. Read below to hear more of their thoughts.

On the 7/11/19 a whole lot of kids from Wakari School went to an athletics day it was called the North Zone Athletics. There was a whole variety of things to do like: relays, shot put, sprints, long jump ,high jump, discus, the 800 hundred metre run and hurdles.

Wakari school entered these sports:

Relays

Shot put

Sprints

Long jump

and Discus.

My favourite sport was relays because our relay team came second so that means we go to Otago Champs. Otago champs are at the same place but with the people who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd .

Thanks teachers and parents for the organisation .

We really appreciated it.

On the 7 of November we went to the Caledonian we did relays and sprints and long jump and shot put and discus also 800 metres. Wakari did really well in the relays. The under 10 boys came second and got in to Otago competition and the under 10 girls came second in relays too, the under 11 girls came 4th. There was heaps of people and kids and the guy that was talking on the microphone was really loud when he was telling everyone what event was next.

This term I went to relays. If you don't know what that means it is a track event that you run preset distance. We all got there in a parents car because they are the helpers. When we first got there we went to warm up to make us hot because we were cold. Then we went to our places. The under 10 girls went first, that was me. Wakari got second in our relay race. It was really fun running around the track.
