Exploring the past in the Year Two Hub.

Anna Lawson —

We don't have a time machine, but the next best thing, a group of very keen inquisitive children who were, excited about learning what Wakari School was like in the past.

The children in the Year 2 Hub, have been creating their own history books. These will be coming home to Parents at the end of the term.  In these fascinating books the children compared every-day activities at Wakari school to the past and what happens now.  We looked at transport, food, fitness, everyday lesson and clothes.  The children were surprised by just how different things were.  Once they got over the initial shock discovering the children of the past had no TVs, computers, play station games and we were able to convince them that yes the world was in colour and not every-one and every-thing was in black and white, they enjoyed exploring the alternatives that children worked with.  We enjoyed the old fashioned games of the past, many were totally confused by knuckle bones, and even Mrs Lawson's prowess at the game was not enough to keep them interested.  We did discover that many of the games we still play, like skipping, chase, and lots of ball games. It was a fun unit and the children enjoyed it thoroughly
