"The Orphan" by Jacob Williams
There once was an orphan who lived in a dark red brick building with a sign above the door that said ‘ORPHANAGE’. He was abandoned there when he was six months old at eleven pm. But on a dark and stormy Monday it just so happened it was visiting day. It had been twelve years and still no one has ever chosen him. But there was one person who would always make him forget that no one had ever chosen him - his Middle school Maths teacher.
Her big welcoming face would give an electric shock of joy,
And her reassuring words of “I know you’ll be chosen one day. I’m certain”.
Once he had finished school and walked back to the Orphanage, it was viewing time. He was surprised to see his Middle school Maths teacher there. She went to the Orphanage owner and said, “I want Lewis,” (which was him all along, yes, his name was Lewis).
“No one ever wanted him,” he snarled.
“Well I do,” the Maths teacher said.
The owner for the Orphanage came down to Lewis to inform him that he would get to go, with his Middle school Maths teacher. Lewis jumped happily from his bed and hugged her, smiling. She looked down and smiled back. They left for the first time in twelve years Lewis could go to a family where someone would love him.
