A Busy Term in the Room 12 and 13 Hub.

Anna Lawson —

We have had such an exciting and busy time in our Hub this term. It was such fun starting the term getting to know each other. The children picked up the the class routines very quickly, and by exploring the classroom and resources in our first week they settled into their new environment. We even created class treaties, laying out the expectations of the Hub.

The first Topic we explored was "Where Am I ?" This Topic explored New Zealand and looked at Maori place names and the importance and meaning behind many of these names. We explored Maori Myths relating to New Zealand, and the children created Posters of their favourite places in and around Dunedin.

The children were also working on their Self Portraits, which are now displayed proudly in the class-room.  They look amazing. With Autumn arriving we switched our focus to nature and what was happening all around us, with Autumn art and poetry. Anzac became an important. focus, as the children will be home for Anzac day we felt it would be good to give them an idea of why we celebrated this very important day. We couldn't forget Easter and we had a number of fun writing and art activities, and are all looking forward to our Easter Bunny Hunt.

The children continued to explore the class and using the variety of resources at Maths, Reading and Writing time. We had a few initial Technology sessions with Pip, but as Covid hit these were suspended, however Mrs Bonney and I continued to work on a number of programmes notably the Bee-Bots and Scratch Junior.

The children built on their fitness and ball skills, with outside games and activities, ball games and even some marching at Music time.  When the weather let us down we came inside for Yoga and Jump Jam.  Then added some Drama activities for a bit of variety.

It has been such a great Term and the children have all worked so hard. Well done to all the Room 12 and 13 Hub children and Mrs Bonney and I are looking forward to another action packed time next term.
