Olympic Gold!

Caroline Brown —

Room 2 had a visit from two awesome athletes this morning.

Olympic gold!

Zach and Jamie Stibbe are the children of a gold medalist Jenny, and Erik.

Jenny is a retired 470 women's sailer.

Erik is an Olympic coach for sailing also. Erik just got back on Monday and talked to us about Rio.

Here’s some things that we learnt.

Can you guess what the most popular food was in the Olympic village?

MCDONALDS!

(We’re not joking)

The line for McDonald's would take about 45 minutes to get to the counter to order and you didn't have to pay. This was the popular choice of athletes that had finished competing.

There were a lot of problems with the Olympic Village. For example there were lots of power cuts and bathroom problems.

There were fridges  that you could use your swipe card to get in and take anything you want like Coke or Fanta or juice or water.

Jenny had a dream to be an Olympic athlete from when she was about 13 years old but she had to wait until sailing became an Olympic event.

Jenny brought her medal along. It was heavier than what I thought. It is actually silver coated in gold because it would have been too expensive to make the medals solid gold. The medal had a picture of ancient Greece on one side and on the other side was the Olympic Rings, the Sydney Opera House, the torch plus the event that Jenny won it in.

We really enjoyed their visit!
