Picking up Rubbish

Steam team —

Cleaning up the local environment.

The Wakari School Stream team took action again!

Today we cleaned up School Creek. We put our gloves on and walked over to the Creek. We found a variety of rubbish like lolly wrappers, snack wrappers, over 10 vape packets and so much more rubbish, even dog poop! We made the decision to clean up the mess last time we went over to look. We all squeezed into tight spaces eager to save this creek. We spent about half an hour picking up all the rubbish and in the end we had 4 buckets, 2 bags that we filled with rubbish and a box we found in the bush. That's lots! We were sad to see how much rubbish there was in the creek. It would be great to see a change.

On the 29th of August Stream Team took action by deciding that we all wanted to help by picking up rubbish in the local area. We had 4 buckets and 2 bags and a large cardboard container. By the end everything was full!

We found lots of different types of rubbish like wrappers, bottles, plastic bags and we also found a fair amount of glass. Everyone worked hard and picked up all the rubbish they saw. It was quite surprising how much rubbish we had because we only had a small space to cover and we couldn’t even reach it all. Stream Team found all this rubbish in just 30 minutes.

We did this because we wanted to not because we had to, we want to work to help save the environment even if you can’t put a huge amount of time aside that’s okay, if you pick up the rubbish you see on the side of the street please pick it up and to what you can to save the planet because you can make a difference.

The Wakari School Stream Team has organised a Green Day for the school. This event is for the school to help the environment and help reduce rubbish and waste! On Green Day you can wear green as well as having a plastic free lunch and morning tea! The plastic that does come to school will be put in a class plastic bin to be recycled and reused. The green day will be on Tuesday 6th of September 2022. We are excited to see you in green!
