Stars on Stage

Katy Fitzgerald —

After weeks and weeks of rehearsals, the Senior Syndicate have performed their Stars on Stage item at the Regent Theatre! Here are some reflections from some of the students involved:

Stars on Stage is a performance that lots of schools attend every second year. It is basically a performance of a dance. This year most of the seniors of Wakari School went and performed a Dancing through Decades item, starting with the 1970’s dancing to Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. Then the 1980’s came on stage and performed an aerobics dance to the song I Need a Hero by Bonnie Tyler. Next was the 1990’s performing a fun, happy dance inspired by the Spice Girls to their famous song Stop. Then the 2000’s came in and danced to Justin Timberlake Can't Stop the Feeling with bright bandanas. Then was the finale that everyone was in. We danced to We are Done because we were done, we all had a blast. - Matilda & Eilish

Last night I went to Stars on Stage. My item was the 2000’s group. We danced to Can't Stop the Feeling. Chihiro danced to I Need a Hero. She was in the 1980’s. I was quite scared when my song turned on but then I just started dancing. I liked the other dances too. We only got to see half the show though. It was fun being on a big stage. -Katie & Chihiro

Last night we went to the Regent Theatre where we performed five dances: 1970ś, 1980ś, 1990 ́s, 2000ś and the FINALE! There were seven other dances - with Wakari included there were eight dances. P from The Hits radio station was the host, she was funny. We had to go backstage for a long time and we went right under the stage. It was sooo loud like someone banging two pots together, you could barely hear yourself! - Lexie & Shalia

I was watching the acts before ours, they were really good. I was scared when we were going on then all of a sudden we had to go on. It started at 7:00 and finished at 8:55.  Just a few hours before, we were talking about SOS and how good it would be while playing on my ps4. Noah was in the 2000s and I (Ollie) was in the 1980s. At the end of it we were happy that we did such a great job - Noah M and Ollie K

On the 28th of August Wakari School seniors went to Stars on Stage 2019. There were 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990's and 2000’s groups. Most of the seniors did it. It was fun but scary with all of the eyes looking at you. It was scary first but it was fun overall - Michaela & Milah

Flash as the lights beam in your face, hundreds of people watch as you perform your act. On Tuesday lots of schools performed an act, including Wakari, Tahuna, Green Island, Bathgate Park and many more. But what Wakari did changed the whole thing. Wakari was doing Dancing through the Decades.   There was 1970's, 1980's, 1990's and 2000's, then there was the finale with 100 Wakari students on stage together - Ryder

Below are some photos of our rehearsal on the morning of the show.
