I hope the tamariki enjoy a well-deserved break.

Chris Smith —

An eleven-week term, with a range of opportunities for our tamariki, has now concluded.

Thanks so much to whanau for all of your support thus far in 2021. A couple of Covid scares earlier in the term bought back a flood of anxiety for many and to date, we have avoided the dreaded lockdown, long may this last.

Next term we will be taking the 3rd of our 8 Teacher Only Days negotiated by the NZEI in the last round of bargaining for teachers. This will be happening on Friday 18 June. This day also aligns with Balmacewen Intermediate.

Tenders for the New Build close this week. The Board will then conduct due diligence and a selection meeting will take place in the holidays. If an appropriate tenderer is successful we will then move to engage and planning will get underway around timelines and process that will be undertaken. Hopefully early in term 2, I will be able to share some positive news on start and finish dates.

Our overarching PBL focus for the majority of the school next term is around the great Pacific migration. I personally have learnt so much already as we have researched this area as a staff. Sir Ian Taylor and his crew have created the following website Maatauranga please click in and enjoy.

Winter sports will be underway pretty quickly upon return and I hope the upcoming season is successful. I do hope you can get out and about and support our young sportspeople. If cost was a barrier to participating please do get in touch with me.

To the Board of Trustees, Home and School, and Staff, thank you for your endeavours this term for our tamariki. Enjoy some time together with friends and family over the upcoming fortnight.

Kind regards,

Chris
