It's Hard to Choose!

Dorothy Hutton —

Little Scientists, Little Artists, Little Designers, Little Gardeners or Little Dancers. You can find all of these little people working very hard in Room 1.

The 'Little Scientists' have been busy learning how to make predictions, test which objects float or sink, record the results on a table, make conclusions and draw a labelled diagram of the experiment.

The 'Little Artists' have been creating original Pacific artworks as crayon-rubbing prints, after selecting their chosen design from turtles, flowers and tree drawings.  Do come and see them up on the wall together with the process required to create the prints.

The 'Little Gardeners' have been enthusiastically watching their vegetables and herbs growing.  They have enjoyed talking and reading about vegetables, working out the mystery codes, guessing the secret vegetables and solving tricky word finds.

The 'Little Dancers' have been busy learning to say and respond to Samoan commands when performing and creating a Sasa.  The children have learnt how to tell a story of everyday activities through their actions, and also to perform in unison as a class and in a small group with various leaders.

The 'Little Designers' have been extremely artistic this term designing and creating a table, chair and bed for a patient.  The children have worked as a team of four, to construct a themed room, complete with decorated walls and floor, for the children's ward at the new Dunedin Hospital.  They have also written individual reflections of their learning.  Their focus has been to make their patient comfortable and happy to ensure they get well quickly.

The Room 1 students also want to say a big thank you for the wonderful new resources.  They are enjoying using them every day for Literacy, Numeracy and in other curriculum areas.
