What a great day for the Cross Country!

Chloe Barton —

On Wednesday the children took part in the annual Wakari School Cross Country. The weather was perfect, the children were excited and lots of families had come along to support. The children all ran so well and should be very proud of their efforts. Here are some reflections from the Room 14 and 16 writers on how their day went.

I was playing in the playground then the bell rang. I ran as fast as I could to do the roll then we went out to the top field. I had butterflies in my tummy. Next we were sitting on the grass. After the year threes it was my turn. Mrs Gribben clapped her hands and we were off. I ran as fast as I could. After I came 10th place I was so happy. - Bethany

The bell had rung, it was time! I nervously crept into class so we could quickly do the roll. We opened the gate and we all rushed out! I was sitting on a blue tarp with everyone else, my legs were already aching! “Year 4 boys” yelled Mrs Gribben. The boys went then the girls went. Then “Year 4 girls!” I was halfway through the track when Johannah got in front of me!! I couldn’t catch up! I felt like my energy was at 1% ! One quarter left! I heard cheering, “Go everyone!” and “Go laura!” That was enough to get me the rest of the way. Coming down the hill made me go faster. Before I knew it, I had done It! 2nd last! At least I tried! I felt really sick! - Laura

The bell was ringing in my ears. I jogged to class, grabbed my drink bottle and put it into the container. We headed to the top field with the rest of the school. I could hear my heart thumping as I watched the races go by. Suddenly it was my turn to run. Mrs Gribben clapped her hands together and whoosh we were off. I was shaking but I was in the lead. By halfway I was already tired but everybody was still far behind me. I passed the side of the winner's shoot. One more lap to go and I will be done, with all my energy I finished the lap and passed the winner's shoot in 1st place. - Andrew

Ring! The bell had rung, I speed off to class, zoom! We quickly did the roll and went on to the DCC field to do cross country. My race was first up. I had to listen out for when it was my race. “Year 3 girls” shouted Mr Smith. It was about to start. I had butterflies in my stomach. The race was on! Mrs Gribben clapped. I was zooming off, all the air was going in my mouth. I was passing so many people, some people were passing me but I didn't mind. After nearly a lap and a half of running, I sprinted through the winners shoot, I came 7th place I was so proud. - Brooke

Ding-a-ding ding dong the bell rang. I didn’t realise the cross country was only a few minutes away. We did the roll. Next we were on the DCC field. I was more nervous than ever. I could hear a buzz of excitement. It’s my race now. Mrs Gribben clapped her hands and we were off. 20 more metres till the finish I thought, yes I’d done it! I came 6th place! I couldn't help but have a few happy tears. - Isla Crawford

The bell rang, we ran to class. It was about time for the roll. Once we were all out on the field Mrs Gribben called us over. "Ready, set go!" the year three girls are off. They were sprinting. Thalia came first! Next was the year three girls, then the year four boys. "I am coming first" I thought "I am pumping, I am spriting." Suddenly Lewis came out of no where! Lewis was coming first, he winsI I came second. - Oakley

Bringg the bell rang! I ran as fast as I could back to class so we could quickly do the roll. Once both of the hubs were done we all lined up. Next we went to the dcc field and Mr Smith gave a speech. Finally when he was done he called the year 3 girls to come up. I had butterflies in my stomach. "On your marks, get set, go!" said Mrs Gribbin as we all zoomed off. We had to do 1 and a half laps. I came third, I was very proud of myself! - Lucy
